Caramel slice is a popular dessert made with a biscuit base, caramel filling, and a chocolate topping. The biscuit base is typically made from crushed biscuits mixed with melted butter, while the caramel filling is made from condensed milk, butter, and brown sugar, which is then cooked until it thickens and turns golden brown in color.

The chocolate topping is made from melted chocolate, which is poured over the caramel layer and allowed to set. Caramel slices can be found in many cafes and bakeries, or can be made at home with a few simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Base-1 cup plain flour1/2 cup brown sugar1/2 cup desiccated coconut125g melted butterFilling-125g butter1/2 cup brown sugar1 teaspoon vanilla extract1 can condensed milk (325g)Topping-1 packet of Cadbury melt chocolate 225g1 tablespoon coconut oil

Method

Combine all of the base ingredients.Place in a lined baking tray and bake at 180C for 15minsOnce done, place in fridge for 10mins to cool.Combine all the filling ingredients in a pot (med heat) except the condensed milk.Ensure sugar dissolves and mixture starts to bubble- then add in condensed milk and stir for 10mins until light caramel colour.Add to the base tray and bake @160C for 12 mins, Leave to cool in fridge for an hour.Combine chocolate and oil & melt in microwave for about 30 seconds.Pour ontop of the caramel slice once it’s cooled & then leave to set in fridge until chocolate has sets
