Download ImageMeatless Chickpea Fatteh Ingredients3 cups cooked chickpeas (canned or freshly boiled)2 cups strained Turkish or Greek yoghurt3 cloves garlic (grated)2 tbsp tahini2 tbsp lemon juice1/2 tsp salt (to taste)1/8 tsp ground black pepper (to taste)1 tsp ground cumin1/2 tsp Aleppo pepper or Turkish pulbiber1/8 tsp ground cinnamon4 cups pita or flatbread (roughly torn)3 tbsp pine nuts or almond3 tbsp butter or olive oil1 tbsp parsley (chopped)1 tbsp pomegranate seedsStepsMix yoghurt, garlic, tahini, lemon juice, salt & pepper, taste to adjust seasoning & set aside.Fry bread till golden brown & crispy, set aside.To assemble, mash half the chickpeas, divide among 4 serving plates/bowls & sprinkle with equal amounts of cumin, Aleppo pepper & cinnamon.Roughly crush bread & sprinkle onto spiced mashed chickpeas.Add whole chickpeas followed by yoghurt sauce.Heat butter/oil in a small pan, when hot, add nuts & fry till golden brown (stirring frequently)Pour nuts (along with the melted butter or oil) on top of yoghurt, garnish with pomegranate, chopped parsley & more bread if desired.Serve immediately.
