In a bowl, whisk together water, soy sauce, vegan oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, maple<br \/>\nsyrup, sesame oil, thick dark soy sauce (optional), and ground white pepper. Set aside.<br \/>\n2. Prepare and Cook the Tofu &#8211; Pat the tofu dry and cut it lengthwise into 3-5 slabs. Rub tofu slabs with salt and cornstarch, ensuring they\u2019re evenly coated. Shake off any excess.<br \/>\n3. Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add 1-2Tbsp of oil and tilt the pan to coat evenly. Pan-fry the tofu until golden brown on all sides, about 3\u20135 minutes per side. Reduce heat as needed to avoid burning, and ensure a crust forms before flipping<br \/>\n4. Pour the sauce into the skillet and simmer while basting and turning the tofu until the sauce reduces to a glossy glaze, 3\u20135 minutes. Remove the tofu from the pan and let cool slightly. Spoon the sweet sauce on top.<br \/>\n5. For the Rice &#8211; Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine 200 g of rice with 400 ml of water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cover with a tight-fitting lid. Cook for 15 minutes, then remove from heat and let stand (covered) for 10 minutes. Fluff<br \/>\n6.
