Place over medium-low heat and cover. Bring to a boil and cook until the cherries start to soften and release their juices, about 10-15 minutes.<br \/>\nMake a cornstarch slurry: add the cornstarch with an additional 1\/4 cup of COLD water to a small bowl and stir with a spoon.<br \/>\nAdd the lemon juice if you feel the mixture is too sweet (see note).<br \/>\nStir the sugar into the cherries, then add the cornstarch slurry. Stir continuously while the mixture thickens, which will happen fast.<br \/>\nRemove the cherries from the heat and place in a bowl or large jar. Cool to room temperature then chill until ready to use. You can also freeze. Will last up to 4 days in the refrigerator.<\/p>\n<h2>Cheesecake Topping<\/h2>\n<p>1 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened<br \/>\n5 tablespoons butter, softened<br \/>\n1\/2 cup sugar<br \/>\n2 eggs<br \/>\n2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour<br \/>\n2 teaspoons vanilla<br \/>\n1 21-ounce can cherry pie filling<\/p>\n<h2>Preparation<\/h2>\n<p>Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 13&#215;9 inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.<br \/>\nPrepare the brownie batter. Pour into the baking dish and set aside.<br \/>\nIn a large bowl cream together the cream cheese and the butter. Add the sugar and beat until well blended. Beat in the eggs, vanilla and the flour just until combined. Drop by spoonfuls over the brownie mixture. Cut through the mixtures with a knife to create a marble pattern. Spoon the cherry pie filling over the top.<br \/>\nBake for 50 to 60 minutes.
